Nicholson, Scott. “Reframing Gaming.” American Libraries, vol. 39, no. 7, 2008, pp. 50–51. JSTOR, www.jstor.org/stable/25650027.

This article examines the role that games play within libraries. It is noted that games have been included in libraries since the 1800s (where they were more traditional, like cricket). Gaming can, in fact, create a community of people from different backgrounds who come together for a common goal/purpose. What is interesting is that this article reframes gaming as “participatory storytelling,” in that the creator of the game sets up the story, and we as players participate in exploring the story. There seems to be a commonality amongst the articles I have come across, and that is the argument that games allow us to engage with an atmosphere that we would not normally be present in, and explore this as a different type of social interaction.
