Granic, Isabel, et al. “The Benefits of Playing Video Games”. American Psychologist, vol.69, no. 1. Jan. 2014, pp 66-78. EBSCOhost
This article discusses positive mental health effects of gaming focusing on motivation, attention, emotional and social benefits and argues that games do in fact have “real-world” benefits. Granic talks about the function of play and how it can allow children, or anyone, to have simulated experiences allowing them to advance their mental and emotional state. It also includes a section of distinction between videogames and other forms of media.
