Pat is our main character. He is an individual who has multiple personality disorder (MPD). Multiple personality disorder, according to Psychology Today, “is a condition wherein a person’s identity is fragmented into two or more distinct personality states.”
According to Arnold Leiber (MD), “[s]ometimes patients will start with just 2 or 3 personalities and it will develop into nearly one hundred. It is common for those with MPD to have personalities of both sexes.”
Pat has four different personalities: Alex (male), Jordan (male), Casey (female), and Taylor (female). All characters manifest from his psyche.
Pat is in the hospital working through his mental illness, and in order for him to be discharged, each character must successfully solve the problems that afflict them.
